Thane Central Jail

No! I don’t want to visit this place anytime in the future.
It’s just a landmark between Kalwa and Thane and I see it almost Everyday. It looks beautiful from the Top.

From the Top it appears like a Flower, Sun, Pentagon, Tortoise, Cow’s face etc…………

Previously a Fort,
Construction of the Thane Fort (Killa) started in 1730.

In 1738 the Marathas conquered Thane Fort from the Portuguese and in 1744 the British conquered Thane city and it’s Fort.

In 1838 Thane Fort was converted to Thane Prison also known as Thane Central Jail.

On April 19 1910 freedom fighters Veer Anant Laxman Kanhere, Gopal Krishnaji Karve, and Vinayak Narayan Deshpande were hanged to death in the Thane Central Jail.

Famous Personalities like Sanjay Dutt and Harshad Mehta spent there judicial custody here.

The Bollywood movie “Undertrial" starring Rajpal Yadav was shot in Thane Prison. 1,500 inmates of the jail participated in the shooting.
